A North Delta raccoon, discovered trapped and suffering on Aug. 4, is the latest prey in a disturbing spike of wildlife maimed by outdoor rat traps across the Lower Mainland.
Found near 11067 82 Ave., the raccoon is the 37th animal admitted to the Langley-based Critter Care Wildlife Society since June.
According to Critter Care Wildlife Society, residents are improperly deploying black plastic snap traps outdoors.
The Fur-Bearers, a registered Canadian wildlife charity partnering with Critter Care, emphasizes that outdoor traps are not efficient in solving rodent infestations.
“Even if you are going to set rat traps, don’t set them in places where other wildlife can get them,” Kuncewicz adds.
