What do Greeks mean when they speak of food dishes as “orphans” or “married”? As the month of August is practically and eagerly seeking for light news this is a good opportunity to enlighten my non-Greek audience about critical descriptions in the popular terminology of the Greek Food Culture. This is an orphan pasta dish with olive oil or butter and grated cheese. Regarding pasta dishes, we have also in addition the expression”-βαπορίσια μακαρόνια – from the ship. It is the traditional pasta rich in flavor due to the sauteing boiled pasta in butter and/or olive oil served with slow-cooked beef chunks or minced meat.
