A historic 1907 pipe organ that was once considered beyond repair and destined for landfill has been restored and is set to become the centrepiece of a new community hub in Ynyshir. The restoration was made possible through a Sleeping Beauty Grant from the charity Pipe Up for Pipe Organs, which works to preserve Britain’s historic pipe organs. The project comes amid growing concerns over the future of pipe organs across the UK. An ITV News report earlier this year highlighted the decline of the instruments, reporting that around nine church organs are sent to landfill every week. Built in 1907 by renowned organ builders Harrison & Harrison, the instrument has stood in St Anne’s Church for more than a century.
