Geneva, August 9: The United Nations office in Geneva shared images on Sunday of five peacocks gifted by India, calling them the “Photo of the Week.” The UN Geneva office posted on the social media platform X, expressing gratitude to India’s Permanent Mission in Geneva for this beautiful gift, which is associated with India’s national bird and continues a century-old tradition. The Permanent Mission of India in Geneva noted that this gift symbolizes India’s partnership with the UN and its commitment to multilateral cooperation. Five Indian peacocks (Pavo cristatus) were presented to Director-General Tatiana Valovaya by India’s Permanent Representative, Arindam Bagchi, enhancing the biodiversity of UN Geneva. This is the second time India has gifted peacocks to UN Geneva, having previously presented a pair in 1981.
