Carnival Corporation, the world’s largest cruise company with eight lines and over 90 ships, has announced that it not only achieved a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), but also did so five years ahead of schedule.
So how did Carnival do it with over 90 cruise ships across eight different cruise lines?
Carnival cut its carbon emission intensity through a range of operational refinements and technology investments, from smart itinerary routing, strategic destination development, robotic hull cleaning and more.
Since 2008, Carnival has reduced its GHG emissions intensity by 44%, meaning emissions associated with each guest sailing have been cut roughly in half during that period.
Carnival Corporation has seven new cruise ships entering service by 2033 that are 20%+ more efficient than their current fleet.
