GS Contractors Ltd, operating in an enclosed Pauline Street yard, will construct the 12-metre by 12-metre metal storage and workshop building. Receiving the decision from Wigan Council on July 31, the proposal was described as a secure storage solution for safeguarding their pricey machinery and vehicles, which have been persistent targets for vandalism and theft, the application states. The Hindley Green site, accessed from Leigh Road via Pauline Street and safeguarded by existing gates and security fencing, currently accommodates several small structures and stored vehicles. There were no traffic incidents noted at the Leigh Road and Pauline Street junction in the past five years. The site has been submitted with a Coal Mining Risk Assessment; the Coal Authority raised no objection subject to a condition.
