Whatever your view on climate change, surely policy should be judged on whether it is likely to make a meaningful difference. The UK now accounts for less than 2% of global carbon dioxide emissions. Climate change, if it is occurring as predicted, is a global challenge that cannot be solved by one country acting alone. Yet our politicians continue to burden British households and businesses with ever-higher energy costs, expensive regulations and policies that risk driving industry overseas. What it certainly does achieve is making Britain poorer and less competitive.
