Pakistan’s plan to import up to 1 million metric tons of wheat has run into resistance as Punjab and other provincial governments appear reluctant to place fresh demands for imported wheat, sources told ProPakistani. The federal government has, in principle, decided to import up to 1 million metric tons of wheat for $340 million. They will still utilize wheat available in PASSCO’s reserves to meet their requirements. PASSCO had around 1.783 million metric tons of wheat in stock during the first week of July,. Sources said the federal government’s proposal to import up to 1 million metric tons is based on the demand and supply situation reported by the provinces.
