Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to the A31 following reports of a vehicle fire at around 5.30pm today. A spokesperson said: "The vehicle fire on the A31 has now spread into the central reservation. "Road closures are currently in place, and motorists are advised to avoid the area and use an alternative route where possible." It is understood that members of the public have removed parts of the central barriers, so motorists are able to turn around and escape the gridlocked traffic.
