Authorities later specified the capsizing occurred in the Hudson River near Buoy 32, between the statue and the Bay Ridge Anchorage. The NYPD's Harbor Unit, SCUBA Team and Aviation Unit responded to the scene, along with the U.S. Coast Guard. According to police and the Coast Guard, the vessel was a 22-foot Bayliner-style bowrider that flipped over with 14 people on board. The remaining survivors were treated for what the Coast Guard described as minor injuries, with authorities saying all were in stable condition. The Coast Guard said it is now investigating, jointly with the Coast Guard Investigative Service and the NYPD, whether Hernandez's boat was operating as an uncredentialed charter — a passenger-for-hire operation lacking required Coast Guard credentials, safety equipment and a certificate of inspection.
