PC Mohinder ‘Ricki’ Sandhu, 39, an off-duty British Transport Police (BTP) officer who served in London, was pronounced dead at the scene at Ingatestone railway station on Monday, August 3.
Emergency services, including BTP and paramedics, were sent to the station following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
British Transport Police Federation shared: "We are deeply saddened by the death of our colleague, PC Ricki Sandhu.
It is understood PC Sandhu was off-duty at the time of the incident and his death is not being treated as suspicious.
"There are also links and phone numbers on our website for support services within BTP and externally," the BTP Federation spokesman added.
