MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Ahmed Maallin Fiqi, convened a high-level bilateral meeting today with senior United Nations officials in Mogadishu to align strategic priorities on regional security and humanitarian intervention. The UN delegation included George Conway, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia and Resident Humanitarian Coordinator, and Sandra Lattouf, UNICEF Representative for Somalia. Discussions centered on critical stabilization efforts, peacebuilding, and the coordination of international assistance. Minister Fiqi presented the Federal Government of Somalia’s strategic outlook on national security and briefed the officials on ongoing military and stabilization operations aimed at restoring long-term regional stability. The meeting focused on expanding structured collaboration between federal authorities and UN entities to streamline emergency aid delivery and bolster institutional support for vulnerable populations affected by persistent socio-economic and environmental pressures.
