He said the events of 1953 had created a political wound that was never fully healed, with successive developments deepening the sense of alienation among the people. Sagar said the decisions of August 5, 2019, further aggravated those sentiments and weakened whatever trust remained between J&K and the Centre. he asked, describing the continued denial of statehood as a matter of “democratic dignity, political confidence and constitutional trust”. He said restoration of full-fledged statehood must be the first concrete step towards healing the political wounds of Jammu and Kashmir. Sagar maintained that the people of J&K had repeatedly demonstrated their faith in democracy by choosing the ballot and deserved “respect, dignity and restoration of their constitutional rights”.
