Srinagar : The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh at Srinagar has granted interim relief to a petitioner staying the operation of an order dated 30 July 2026 passed by the Judicial Magistrate 1st Class (City Judge), Srinagar, directing registration of an FIR against him. The matter came before the High Court before a Bench comprising Justice Sanjay Dhar. Counsels argued that the magistrate, having adopted that course, was not open to subsequently reverting to the earlier position and directing registration of an FIR. A bench of Justice Sanjay Dhar issued notice to the respondents and directed that the impugned order passed by City Judge Srinagar dated 30-07-2026 shall remain in abeyance. The Court further directed that if an FIR had already been registered pursuant to the said impugned order passed by City Judge Srinagar, the investigation in the same shall not proceed ahead.
