Rejecting the obvious salon typology outright, Linga looked at no salons for inspiration while designing this one. Instead she studied spas and boutique retreats, including several in Bangkok that had stayed with her, such as urban buildings where the city seemed to melt away at the threshold. “While wellness spaces and spas are designed to calm your nervous system, salons rarely offer that same emotional quality,” she points out. “They are usually visually overstimulating, busy, loud, and transactional.” She began noticing how thoughtlessly that hour was designed: the ceiling light in your eyes during a hair wash, the mirror you are forced to sit facing for 40 minutes.
