Hyderabad: Traffic police have registered five criminal cases against vehicle owners for allegedly using fake, tampered or unauthorised registration plates to conceal vehicle identities and evade traffic enforcement in one week.
The cases were registered at Punjagutta, Chilkalguda, Kanchanbagh and Bandlaguda police limits in the city, and Dindi police station in Nalgonda district.
The action followed an increase in complaints from citizens regarding vehicles being operated with fraudulent registration plates.
Officials said only government-approved High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are legally permitted.
Alterations to registration plates, missing digits and the use of temporary stickers are prohibited.
