The massive 1993 movie Kurt Russell priced himself out of: “I knew I couldn’t afford him”While he’s never been ranked among Hollywood’s highest-paid stars, Kurt Russell doesn’t come cheap, and he hasn’t for a long time, which ruled him out of one of the most iconic movies of its era. He’d never worked for pennies, but thanks to several offers he couldn’t turn down, the former Disney favourite found himself in some rarefied air. Having ended the previous decade by pocketing a reported $3million for Tango & Cash, his value exploded when Roland Emmerich’s Stargate forked over $7m to secure his services. That’s a fair chunk of change, but why pay millions for Kurt Russell when you can pay $500,000 for Sam Neill? “Richard Dreyfuss would have been a natural choice for me, but I knew I couldn’t afford him for this picture: the same for Kurt Russell,” the filmmaker revealed.
