During the early years of The Beach Boys, those vocals were the group’s weapon of choice in making hits. “‘Let’s Go Away for Awhile’ was probably one of my favourite instrumentals we ever did,” he once shared. [It] was an attempt to make a more pleasant, easy-going, take-your-mind-away kind of thing,” he continued, adding: “Like experiencing an orgasm – a musical orgasm.” In ‘Let’s Go Away for Awhile’, though, Wilson affirmed that there was more to The Beach Boys than their barbershop-esque harmonies and pop sensibilities.
