A local has taken to social media to call attention to the amount of rubbish being left behind at Manoel Island, claiming repeated reports to the authorities have so far failed to resolve the issue. According to her, some of the mess is being left behind by people who visit Manoel Island every weekend to have barbecues but fail to clean up after themselves once they leave. The local said she had already contacted the relevant authorities about the situation on several occasions. Her footage shows rubbish scattered across the area, with the resident appealing for people using Manoel Island to take responsibility for what they bring with them and leave the area clean for others.
