If you know your Bible, you’ll know that Jesus tells a version of exactly this story, called the Parable of the Unjust Steward.
And when we deal with money, he says, we must have even more wisdom, than the children of the world; not less.
Jesus tells us that we are indeed to use our money to make friends, to build relationships: not relationships of narrow self-interest, but rather friendships of spiritual integrity.
Human beings are always tempted to make an idol out of money, to treat mammon itself as a kind of god.
