The latest update comes as Boehringer Ingelheim acknowledged the growing concern within the livestock sector and confirmed it is working to secure additional bluetongue vaccine supplies. “Vaccination remains the most effective tool available to help protect susceptible livestock against bluetongue. Dr Timothy added that the company was working alongside Defra, the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, veterinary professionals and livestock industry organisations to increase vaccine availability. “We will continue to support UK farmers and the veterinary community throughout this outbreak. With Scotland remaining free of bluetongue, farmers are being urged to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases immediately to help protect the country’s livestock sectors.
