AHDB says pig producers squeezed by rising costs and falling prices

At the same time, the GB Standard Pig Price (SPP) fell from 188p/kg to 179p/kg, leaving many producers facing substantial losses.
Feed remains by far the biggest cost for producers, accounting for around 60% of total production costs.
AHDB estimates feed costs alone increased by about 4p/kg during the quarter.
While feed inflation continues to weigh heavily on businesses, a fall in pig prices has widened the gap between production costs and sale values.
Since 2025, the levy body's calculations have been based on the Standard Pig Price rather than the Average Pig Price, following the discontinuation of the APP data series.
