South West location named one of UK's best spots to see astronomical event

Exmoor National Park, spanning across Somerset and Devon, has been ranked the third-best location in the country for viewing the upcoming partial solar eclipse on August 12, 2026.
Exmoor National Park recorded 55 per cent average cloud cover in August, 93.4 per cent solar obscuration, and a peak elevation of 519 metres.
Other UK locations making the top 10 included St Agnes Head in Cornwall, Malham Cove in North Yorkshire, and Rhossili Down in Swansea.
Although the eclipse will be total in parts of Europe, the UK will only experience a partial eclipse, making location and conditions especially important for enthusiasts hoping to catch the best view.
The partial eclipse will be visible across the UK, but only as a partial dimming of the sun—as much as 95.8 per cent obscuration in some areas.
