James Wood, of Cloakham Drive, pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation from March 22, 2024, to October 10, 2024.
The court heard that Wood, 47, accessed his younger sister’s bank account to make purchases and transfer money to himself, to the value of £5,005.
In a victim impact statement read to the court, his sister said: "I just want to know why he did it, and where the money has gone.
The court heard the offences were motivated in part by a gambling addiction.
He was ordered to pay compensation in full as well as court costs of £85 and a £187 victim surcharge.
