Acclaimed midwife Sheena Byrom OBE and NHS midwife, author, and broadcaster Leah Hazard spoke to a packed audience of student midwives, sharing personal lessons from their careers and exploring the future of the profession.
Ms Byrom, who began her career in maternity care in 1978, said: "For me, meeting student midwives is incredibly important.
The visit took place amid growing frustration for newly qualified midwives, who are struggling to find jobs despite ongoing staffing shortages in maternity services.
"I'm hearing from midwives who are under enormous pressure because there's a shortage of staff across maternity services, and yet we have passionate, highly qualified student midwives who can't find jobs.
Megan Bourne, midwifery student and chair of MidSoc, said: "It was a real privilege to welcome Leah and Sheena to our university.
