Shafaqna English- The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) confirmed on Sunday(9 Aug 2026) that it has launched a formal investigation into a serious incident at Sydney Airport, where a Jetstar A320 and a Qatar Airways Boeing 777 came dangerously close to colliding on the airport’s tarmac. The regulator noted that the incident was reported to them and that preliminary inquiries are already underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the near-miss. The aviation regulator further detailed that the Jetstar aircraft was in the process of taxiing for departure to the Gold Coast in Queensland when its flight crew suddenly noticed the Qatar Airways plane being towed by a ground vehicle on an intersecting taxiway. The proximity of the two aircraft was reportedly alarming, forcing the Jetstar crew to take immediate evasive action to prevent a potential collision.
