Shafaqna English- Following a sharp increase in accidents involving electric scooters, Paris police announced on Saturday(8 Aug 2026) that new safety regulations have been introduced, requiring all riders to wear helmets and high-visibility reflective vests. The new safety measures, which came into force on Friday across Paris and its nearby suburban areas, apply to all types of motorized personal mobility devices. This includes not only e-scooters but also Segways and hoverboards, all of which have seen a surge in usage, according to police observations. Although Paris voted to ban rental e-scooters in 2023 over safety worries, privately owned e-scooters remain in widespread use across the city, AFP reported. This persistent usage reflects the enduring appeal of these convenient and affordable transport options, even as authorities attempt to regulate their use through new safety measures.
