Fresh data from the Washington State Department of Revenue shows that retail activity was fairly strong in Pacific County communities toward the end of spring. According to a monthly update from the state agency at the beginning of August, the City of Long Beach collected $78,912 in sales tax revenue for the month of May. Along with providing a key source of revenue for cities and the county, tax collections — namely sales and lodging taxes — are a data point that is used to measure the health of an area’s economy. But collections were strong in the unincorporated areas of Pacific County, which includes communities such as Seaview, Ocean Park, Chinook, Naselle, Bay Center and Tokeland. South Bend had its worst May of the decade, with its $20,644 well below the previous low of $22,652 in 2024.
