Artists Alfonso “Piloto” Nieves Ruiz (left) Andrew Walker III greet each other after unveiling their new mural on the exterior of the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center at 1655 Foster St. The muralists worked with community members for more than two years to create the sweeping 40-foot mural. The unveiling was held just a few minutes before the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Foster Elementary School, less than a block away. The artists celebrate with Fifth Ward residents and supporters who helped make the $60,000 mural that was facilitated by Artsie, an Evanston arts education organization. “I hope that everyone who sees this mural feels the pride, resilience and hope that define the Fifth Ward,” said Marchelle Bonner (left), program coordinator at Fleetwood-Jourdain.
