In February 2025, a modification to an industry rulebook most people have never heard of changed how electricity can be bought and sold in Britain. What did not exist was a settlement mechanism that could tell their electricity apart from everyone else’s. On electricity matched directly from a licence-exempt generator, that element falls away. On matched volumes, that can mean a reduction of around 25 to 30 per cent against a typical business electricity rate.
