Jeremy Jordan looks as if he could have stepped straight out of its nightclub world. Both versions begin with the star appearing as himself before stepping into Darin’s story: first Groff, and now Jordan. Where Groff projects warmth and sensitivity, Jordan brings a tougher, more overtly confident presence that fits Darin’s nightclub persona. That is not to say Jordan gives a better performance than Groff. The book is plodding and short on dramatic action, moving through Darin’s career, relationships, family history and health problems without building much momentum.
