Iran said on Sunday that a deal with Oman defining new shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz was in its final stages but reiterated that the strait would only reopen once the United States met other conditions. United States actions would be tied to Iran’s implementation of its commitments, the official said. Araqchi said reopening the strait would depend on conditions including United States compensation to Iran for its widespread attacks. It was not clear whether or how either Pakistan or Turkey would join in any Saudi response to the latest attacks. The United States and Israel launched air strikes on Iran more than five months ago.
