Fire crews from across Somerset and Devon were called to a large grassfire in Puriton on Saturday (August 8th) after multiple reports of smoke and flames were received by the fire service at 5.03pm. Seven appliances were initially sent to the scene near Bridgwater, where the incident was quickly sectorised. Crews worked on both sides of the fire using beaters and hose reel jets to stop it spreading further across the dry ground. A final update issued at 10.48pm confirmed the fire involved a commercial property, with a bin store, a minibus and around 16 acres of grassland affected. Both the bin store and the minibus were completely destroyed.
