African music festival cancelled after permit challenges persistToronto’s Afrofest has been cancelled for 2026 after organizers and city officials were unable to secure a suitable venue for the long running African music festival. Music Africa of Canada, which organizes the annual event, said concerns over attendance limits at Woodbine Park prevented the festival from proceeding. City officials disputed that claim, saying no events with attendance above 5,000 people per day have been scheduled at Woodbine Park this year. It is recognized as one of Canada’s longest running African cultural celebrations and the largest free African music festival in North America. The city said it plans to work with Music Africa of Canada to prepare for the 2027 festival.
