The day in 1992 when 15-year-old Michael Neugebauer, after years of abuse, shot and killed his parents and two siblings at their farm near Menoken, North Dakota.
"My mission is to help children — that they all have a gift inside of them," Hieb said of the art therapy.
Hieb had no knowledge of the murders until Michael told her well into the runaway road trip.
She talked of the abuse Michael Neugebauer suffered as a teenager and how nobody would do anything about it, even when Jackie told authorities.
Survivor advocate and author Jackie Hieb speaks at TEDxFargo on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Brewhalla in north Fargo.
