Structure fire claims one life

At approximately 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning, 911 received a call reporting a house fire with a possible person trapped inside on County Road 369.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, Lafayette County Fire Department, Oxford Fire Department, MS State Fire Marshal’s Office and Baptist Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, Monique Crashon Gardner, 35, of Oxford, was found dead in the home.
The circumstances surrounding the fire and the death are currently under investigation by the Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s Office in conjunction with investigators from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and Lafayette County Fire Department.
