Moroccan judicial police in the northern city of Larache have opened a criminal investigation into a woman accused by authorities of making false allegations about recent migration attempts to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, according to a security source. The investigation was launched after the woman, described as an irregular migration candidate, made statements to a national news website that were later widely shared on social media. According to authorities, the woman claimed that official authorities had deliberately opened the border to migrants before abandoning them and preventing them from entering Ceuta. Authorities said the statements were false and constituted offenses under Moroccan law. Investigators said the woman had voluntarily traveled to the northern city of Fnideq in an attempt to migrate irregularly but was prevented from entering Ceuta after security forces intervened.
