Japan’s International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has issued a procurement notice for a detailed planning study for a joint earthquake risk reduction research project in Morocco that will use artificial intelligence, locally available building materials, and earthquake-resistant technologies.
The project is part of the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS), a Japanese research cooperation program that supports scientific projects addressing global challenges.
The project will examine the use of artificial intelligence to assess damage in remote mountain areas that are difficult to access.
Professor Taiki Saito of Toyohashi University of Technology will lead the Japanese research team, while the Japan Science and Technology Agency will participate as an observer.
The findings will be used to prepare procurement documents for the joint Japanese-Moroccan research project.
