TROY, N.Y. — Empire State Development (ESD) announced that construction is underway to renovate the historic American Theatre in downtown Troy. The $7.1 million project, which is supported by nearly $1.9 million from ESD, intends to renovate the building to construct a single-screen movie theater. Proctor’s Collective CEO Phillip Morris said he was proud to support the project and that it will be an added benefit to Troy. “Movies have been integral to us as a culture for as long as the American Theatre has been standing,” he said in the release. Troy City Council President Sue Steele said, “The Troy City Council is thrilled that this historic movie theater will have new life in our city.
