By Amos HarrisMONROVIA — Liberia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), through its Office of Precious Minerals (OPM), has introduced new regulations aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and government oversight within the national gold sector. Minister of Mines and Energy R. Matenokay Tingban announced that the measures center on a new Gold Traceability System designed to monitor mineral movements, combat illicit trafficking, and promote responsible resource governance. A core component of this governance framework is the mandatory implementation of official Gold Traceability Vouchers, which takes effect on October 1, 2026. To enforce compliance, the Office of Precious Minerals and the Bureau of Mines will conduct periodic inspections across the sector. Minister Tingban noted that the long-term success of the Gold Traceability System depends heavily on strict industry compliance, robust enforcement, and seamless cooperation among government institutions.
