Aden – Yemen’s Ministry of Transport on Saturday strongly condemned what it described as a terrorist attempt by Iran‑backed Houthi militias to target an oil tanker with an explosive‑laden boat while the vessel was anchored at Mokha port on the Red Sea. The ministry said the incident occurred around 5 p.m. Friday, August 7, when patrols from the National Resistance detected a suspicious boat approaching the shoreline near the Mokha power station. Authorities intervened and detonated the vessel before it reached the restricted zone of the port, preventing damage to the tanker. “This hostile act represents a grave threat to maritime security in the Red Sea, endangering commercial and oil vessels, their crews, and the marine environment,” the ministry said, warning of catastrophic consequences if tankers carrying petroleum products or hazardous materials were struck, including potential oil spills and pollution of waters, beaches, and marine resources. The ministry affirmed continued coordination with relevant authorities to monitor the incident and implement measures to secure maritime traffic, protect vessels, and safeguard Yemen’s ports and vital infrastructure from further threats.
