Authorities and elected representatives have reported improvements at an unofficial wildlife sanctuary where several land access disputes had occurred.
Community tensions had been running high after the Sovereign Nation of Shetland introduced fees of up to £5,000 for visitors to the unofficial Boddam Wildlife Sanctuary in the South Mainland.
The site in question has been the focus of several disputes between a landowner, who is a member of the Sovereign Nation, and visitors including tourists, bird watchers and horse riders.
The Sovereign Nation of Shetland disputes claims that the foreshore is owned by Crown Estate Scotland, maintains that Shetland is not part of Scotland or the UK, and that right to roam laws do not apply.
“We would encourage anyone who experiences issues at Boddam to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
