What are commonly called “braced” pistols but are actually short-barreled rifles—SBRs—are legal, or they’re not, until they’re legal again, until they’re not. Braced pistols are legal; SBRs aren’t--sort of. SBRs are only slightly easier to conceal than rifles and will never take the place of handguns for criminals. Recently introduced “braced pistols,” Like the Springfield Kuna, Taurus RPC, and KelTec KP-50, are proving to be extremely popular. Other braced pistols based on the AR-15 platform have been around for decades, but the new designs are quickly going to reach the “in common use” threshold of the Supreme Court’s Bruen decision.
