Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sajjanar alerted the public that cybercriminals are increasingly targeting the elderly for massive scams.
He revealed that fraudsters have swindled Rs 102.02 crore from senior citizens over a period of 19 months, with 403 cases registered within the Hyderabad Cyber Crime police jurisdiction during this time.
Addressing the media in Hyderabad on Sunday, releasing statistics covering the period from January 2025 to July 31, 2026, Sajjanar stated that victims lost Rs 55.88 crore in trading scams, with 113 such cases registered.
He noted that 69 cases involving "digital arrest" tactics were registered, resulting in a loss of Rs 31.93 crore for the elderly.
They stated that this prevented victims from losing Rs 2.79 crore.
