Saunders Valve was based on Widemarsh Street, behind what is now Wickes, but later moved to the Widemarsh Common area, until its Hereford factory closed in 1982. Saunders, the company initially operated out of Wolverhampton before beginning manufacturing operations in Hereford, as well as Cwmbran in Wales. David Smale, a former engineering apprentice at Saunders Valve from 1966 to 1971, said: "A wonderful grounding which formulated the whole of my working life." The Hereford factory closed in 1982, and at the time, the assembly of the valves was relocated to Cwmbran. Despite these setbacks, Saunders Valve continues to operate from Cwmbran with additional manufacturing sites in Satara, India; Conroe, Texas; and Cincinnati, Ohio.
