Aparna is taking Wayanad’s traditional Paniya jewellery to Instagram, helping preserve a unique craft and cultural identity for a new generation. Wayanad’s traditional jewellery, once worn exclusively by women of the Paniya tribal community, is finding a new audience through an Instagram initiative by Aparna. Preserving Paniya craftsmanshipAparna is now using Instagram to introduce the world to the distinctive jewellery collection made and worn by Paniya women, including ornaments associated with her mother and Muthi. She says many among the younger generation of the Paniya community are increasingly less interested in traditional ornaments, while some no longer know how to make them. Through Panicci, Aparna hopes to preserve these traditional designs and ensure that the jewellery and craftsmanship of Paniya women do not disappear with changing generations.
