Mackbear Coffee, on Market Gate in the town centre, was visited by Food Standards Agency inspectors on May 21. The popular coffee shop, which sells a range of sweet treats and hot drinks, was found to require ‘major improvement’ and hit with a one-star rating. Food hygiene ratings range from zero to five, are publicly available and shared online around a month after an inspection. “Foods stored in this fridge are high-risk and will support the growth of food poisoning bacteria and/or their toxins,” the report states. Inspectors noted that there was no soap at two different sinks within the coffee shop, with one also not supplied with hand frying facilities.
