Firefighters extinguished the blaze in Bishopthorpe Road at about 4.20am on Sunday (August 9). North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it understood that the fire was started deliberately and informed police about the incident. In a statement, the fire service said: “A crew from York responded to a tree that was on fire. Elsewhere, police are investigating another fire that was started deliberately in York on Saturday night. North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said two crews extinguished the fire using a hose reel.
