Robert Andrew McEwan, of Nounty Avenue, Maryport, was stopped by police while driving a Suzuki in Whitehaven's Market Place on February 4 this year. Blood tests later revealed he had 37 micrograms of cocaine per litre of blood. The legal limit is 10 micrograms. Appearing at West Cumbria Courthouse on August 4, McEwan pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the legal limit, contrary to the Road Traffic Act 1988. McEwan was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a £173 victim surcharge.
