The Old High Church in Inverness still has a place at the heart of the community. Inverness can be grateful to the dedicated members of the local group who formed a charity, purchased the Old High Church building, and opened it to the public. But the Old High is no longer owned by the Church of Scotland, and is, I believe, no longer a consecrated building. Consecrated hearts, and consecrated communities, count for far more than consecrated buildings. The God who is present everywhere has not deserted that great building beside the River Ness where, if we are very still, we may catch the faint echo of centuries of music, sermons, prayer, the chanting of mass.
